Do I Qualify for Home Health Services?

At Nightingale Nursing & Home Health, we are committed to helping New Mexico’s aging and vulnerable populations access the benefits they’ve earned. Through federal programs like RECA and EEOICPA, many individuals and families qualify for free in-home health care services—often including financial compensation—based on past employment or radiation exposure.

We know the process may seem complicated, but we are here to simplify it. Our experienced team will walk with you from start to finish.

Eligibility Pathways:

1. Miner, Miller, or Hauler – RECA Program

You may qualify for benefits under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) if:

  • You worked in uranium mines, mills, or as a hauler in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming between January 1, 1941 and December 31, 1971

  • You were exposed to 40+ working-level months of radiation, or worked at least one year during that time

  • You developed a qualifying illness such as:

    • Primary lung cancer

    • Pulmonary fibrosis

    • Silicosis

    • Pneumoconiosis

    • Cor pulmonale secondary to lung disease

    • For mill workers or haulers: kidney diseases may also qualify

2. DOE or Nuclear Worker – EEOICPA Program

You may be eligible under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) if:

  • You are a former employee, subcontractor, or contractor of the Department of Energy (DOE) or an atomic weapons facility

  • You developed a qualifying illness linked to radiation or toxic exposure, such as:

    • Cancer

    • Chronic beryllium disease

    • Silicosis

Radiation Exposure Screening & Education Program – RESEP

The RESEP program, administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, offers:

  • Medical screenings for radiation-associated illnesses

  • Education and guidance about exposure risks

  • Help filing claims under RECA or EEOICPA

  • Referrals to RESEP Centers located across the U.S.
